Alabama reaches top five for Michael Compton-Nero
The No. 1 athlete in the 247Sports composite visited during Alabama’s 49-18 win over South Carolina.
SEP 29, 2026

Alabama reached the top five for 2028 athlete Michael Compton-Nero after he visited Saturday for the Crimson Tide’s 49-18 win over South Carolina.
Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and SMU also made Compton-Nero’s list. He ranks No. 45 overall and No. 1 among athletes in the 247Sports composite, while On3/Rivals rank him No. 51 overall and No. 3 at the position. He is the top player in Oklahoma. A commitment would add another major piece to Alabama’s No. 1-ranked 2028 class, which has six commits, and strengthen the Crimson Tide’s position with the state’s top prospect.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound athlete brings unusual positional range. At Rejoice Christian, he played quarterback and produced more than 3,000 all-purpose yards, 49 total touchdowns and 95 tackles as a sophomore. After transferring to Owasso, he has 22 catches for 133 yards and two touchdowns, plus eight tackles during his junior season.
Alabama visits Mississippi State on Oct. 3. Compton-Nero has not announced a decision date or preferred school.
01 · The Detail Beneath the HeadlineWhat Most People Are Missing
Alabama’s competition splits sharply on 2026 results. The Crimson Tide and Notre Dame are 4-0, while home-state finalist Oklahoma is 2-2 after losses at Michigan and Georgia, and Ole Miss is 3-1 after losing at Florida. That is a reversal from 2025, when all four finished with at least 10 wins and Ole Miss led them at 13-2.
Compton-Nero’s timing can change that competitive frame. Alabama already has six commitments and the No. 1 class. Because no decision date has been announced, later 2026 results can keep changing the comparison before he chooses. No preferred school has been announced.
02 · The Open QuestionsQuestions to Be Answered
Is Alabama leading after the Sept. 26 visit?
The visit gave Alabama a 49-18 showcase, but Compton-Nero has not named a preferred school. Any announced visit, shorter list or stated preference would be the first clear tell that one finalist has moved ahead. Oklahoma’s home-state position and Notre Dame’s matching 4-0 start keep Alabama from treating the visit and its six-commit class as an answer.
What position is Alabama recruiting him to play?
His Owasso production is concentrated at receiver, with 22 catches, 133 yards and two touchdowns, but his sophomore season at Rejoice Christian included quarterback production and 95 tackles. A college position projection would clarify which part of that range Alabama values and whether his athlete ranking will translate into a specific roster job.
