01 · The NewsBryce Young Joins GameDay

College GameDay will broadcast from Alabama’s Quad on Saturday, Oct. 10, before No. 2 Georgia and No. 6 Alabama put matching 5-0 records — and early SEC and College Football Playoff positioning — on the line, with Bryce Young serving as the celebrity guest picker.

The set will be positioned by Denny Chimes in Tuscaloosa before the teams meet at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Young will join the show as the scheduled celebrity guest picker.

Georgia finished 2025 at 12-2, compared with Alabama’s 11-4 mark, though both teams went 7-1 in SEC play. The Bulldogs opened 2026 ranked No. 2 in both the AP and coaches polls. Alabama began No. 6 in the AP poll and No. 7 in the coaches poll.

Josh Pate’s preseason bracket put Georgia at No. 1 and Alabama at No. 10. The matchup directly tests his top playoff call and his projected place for the Crimson Tide in the field.

Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee and Nick Saban are part of the GameDay crew. Georgia-Alabama is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC, with Chris Fowler, Herbstreit, Laura Rutledge and Holly Rowe assigned to the game broadcast.

Alabama is scheduled to visit Tennessee on Oct. 17, while Georgia is set to host Auburn that day.

02 · The StakesWhat’s at Stake

The winner gains an early edge in the SEC race and strengthens its path toward a top College Football Playoff seed. The loser leaves the game with its unbeaten record gone.

03 · The Detail Beneath the HeadlineWhat Most People Are Missing

The calendar creates different costs beyond the unbeaten record. Alabama’s Oct. 10 home game against Georgia begins a three-game stretch in 15 days: the Crimson Tide visits Tennessee on Oct. 17 and hosts Texas A&M on Oct. 24. Georgia also plays three times across 22 days, returning home for Auburn on Oct. 17 before its next listed game against Florida on Oct. 31.

That extra week falls after Georgia’s first road game since its Sept. 19 win at Arkansas. Alabama, which played at Mississippi State on Oct. 3, has another road date at Tennessee immediately after Georgia.

“The loser leaves the game with its unbeaten record gone.”
