On Saturday, Oct. 3, Damon Wilson recorded a nation-best 11 pressures in Miami’s 41-13 win at Clemson, giving the No. 4 Hurricanes a new pass-rush threat as they moved to 5-0.
“Damon (Wilson) has really grown in our systems, and there's a lot more that's going to be coming from him here in the next couple of weeks,” Miami coach Mario Cristobal said. “So we're eager for the next (game).”
Miami hosts Florida State on Oct. 17, and Wilson’s pressure could give the Hurricanes another proven difference-maker in their biggest remaining rivalry game. A repeat performance would strengthen Miami’s push to stay in the College Football Playoff race; one game remains the only production point available so far.
Pro Football Focus credited Wilson with the most pressures in the nation during Week 5. Wilson transferred from Missouri, where he recorded nine sacks last season, and earned preseason first-team All-ACC honors. Tankathon projects him as a second-round pick in the 2026 NFL draft.
Wilson’s ability to create pressure without extra rushers would force Florida State to account for him while Miami sends fewer defenders into the rush. That could make the Hurricanes harder to scheme against in the passing game, particularly in a rivalry matchup that comes after Miami’s bye week.
Wilson’s emergence is part of the case for seeing these Hurricanes as a legitimate top-four team instead. Miami is ranked No. 4 in both the AP Top 25 and AFCA Coaches Poll, but the Clemson performance has to travel beyond one Saturday.
The next test belongs to Wilson: turn the 11-pressure outing at Clemson into the standard Florida State must handle on Oct. 17.

If Wilson can sustain this pressure, Miami’s playoff path gets stronger; if the Clemson performance was a one-game spike, the Hurricanes may still lack a consistent defensive difference-maker against elite opponents.
