Georgia and Clemson ended their four-game football series in an agreement signed March 12 by athletic directors Josh Brooks and Graham Neff, removing planned home-and-home games as conference schedules tighten, according to The Banner-Herald.
The document, obtained through an open-records request, says the schools terminated the contracts and all their provisions, including payment requirements. The series was agreed upon in 2018 and 2019 and was scheduled to alternate between the schools' home stadiums.
“The reality is when you go to nine conference games and (Georgia) Tech, adding that many games put us in a precarious situation with the number of home and homes we had scheduled,” Brooks said in May. “Instead of just eliminating those games all together, we're trying to find a way to keep as many of those on the schedule and the simplest way to do that would be to move to a neutral site.”
Brooks said the schools could re-add games at a neutral location, but no replacement has been announced. That would preserve Georgia-Clemson while eliminating the planned campus dates.
Georgia already canceled a 2027-28 home-and-home series with Florida State and is working toward a neutral-site game in 2028. Brooks said Georgia’s primary focus was deciding where that Florida State game would be played.
“We're in talks right now. I've got to get through some other stuff first, but (Neff) and I have been in talks and we'll see how that evolves over time, but right now my primary focus is on the Florida State game and where that game is going to be played,” Brooks told The Banner-Herald in May.

Georgia’s SEC schedule moved to nine conference games in 2026, with Georgia Tech also on the nonconference schedule. Clemson is among five ACC teams playing eight conference games in 2026; the 17-team league uses an uneven rotation, and Clemson also has an annual Notre Dame series beginning in 2027. ACC teams must schedule a Power Four nonconference opponent.
