Johnson is Florida State's fifth-highest-ranked 2027 commit. The 247Sports composite ranks him No. 344 overall, No. 21 among athletes and No. 31 among players from Florida. Florida State hosts SMU on Monday, Sept. 7.
Texas A&M has landed five of Florida's top eight players in the 2027 cycle and went 19-7 across the two seasons before 2026, compared with Florida State's 7-17. The Aggies went 11-2 in 2025; the Seminoles went 5-7.
Johnson is listed as an athlete and is expected to play in the secondary, though his college position remains unsettled. Florida State has two safeties committed, Ta'Shawn Poole and Jemari Foreman, but no cornerbacks. Johnson has not decommitted or announced a decision timeline, and he remains committed to Florida State.

Johnson’s athlete designation makes the potential loss more complicated than his No. 344 overall ranking suggests. Florida State cannot count him cleanly at either secondary position: placed at cornerback, he would fill the class’s empty column; placed at safety, he would give the Seminoles a third option alongside Ta’Shawn Poole and Jemari Foreman. A departure would remove that flexibility before his role is settled.
Texas A&M’s push also reaches beyond one recruitment. The Aggies already hold commitments from five of Florida’s top eight players, and flipping the state’s No. 31 prospect would extend that success deeper into the pool. Their 19-7 record over the previous two seasons produced 12 more wins than Florida State’s 7-17, giving the Aggies an on-field advantage alongside their existing foothold in Florida.

A decommitment or reaffirmation from Johnson is the clearest tell.
