Texas A&M’s score over Arkansas

01 · The NewsReed Sparks Aggies’ Response

Texas A&M answered consecutive losses to Kentucky and LSU by beating Arkansas 34–7 on Saturday, Oct. 3, at Kyle Field for its first SEC win of 2026 and a 3–2 overall record.

“Proud of the response,” coach Mike Elko said. “We challenged the guys to come out and play physical and control the line of scrimmage. We got looser in the second half. Did a nice job on special teams.”

Freshman KJ Edwards led the rushing production with 66 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries. Carsyn Baker added a rushing score, while quarterback Marcel Reed ran nine times for 66 yards and a touchdown. Texas A&M also won the turnover battle.

Reed’s work on the ground helped settle the offense after Texas A&M scored six points in its 35–6 loss at LSU. Elko said Reed’s running gave him a way into the game.

“I thought he was able to use his legs and get out of the perimeter a little bit. I think when people allow him to do that, it makes it a little bit easier for him… That gets him in rhythm and gets him comfortable,” Elko said.

Missouri now gets the first look at whether Texas A&M can carry that physical approach into another SEC game. For Reed, the answer began with nine carries and a team that finally played on its terms.

02 · The StakesWhy It Matters

The response kept Texas A&M’s SEC season from slipping away before a noon ET game at Missouri on Oct. 10 and a road trip to Alabama on Oct. 24. The Aggies controlled the game with 231 rushing yards on 49 attempts and held Arkansas to 214 total yards and seven points.

03 · The Detail Beneath the HeadlineWhat Most People Are Missing

The Arkansas result looks like a reset, but the sharper comparison is with the standard Texas A&M is chasing: The Aggies went 7–1 in conference play during an 11–2 season in 2025 and are 1–2 in the SEC after five games in 2026. Beating an Arkansas program that went 0–8 in the league last season stopped the slide without restoring that margin for error.

The calendar makes Missouri the hinge. The Oct. 10 trip is Texas A&M’s only SEC game between Arkansas and the Oct. 24 visit to Alabama, with The Citadel on Oct. 17. A second conference win would make Arkansas the start of a response rather than an isolated home result.

“Proud of the response”

04 · The Open QuestionsQuestions to Be Answered

1

Can Texas A&M’s rushing formula hold up at Missouri?

Texas A&M has not specified its passing line or exact turnover totals against Arkansas, leaving 231 rushing yards as the measurable offensive change. The Oct. 10 snap distribution between Reed, Edwards and Baker, along with the passing line and turnover count, will show whether the Aggies can reproduce that control away from Kyle Field before visiting Alabama on Oct. 24.
