USC freshman tight end Mark Bowman turned six catches into 83 yards and two touchdowns in the Trojans’ 49-30 win over Louisiana on Saturday, Sept. 12, then earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors as USC moved to 3-0.
Bowman led USC in receiving, and his 83 yards marked the most in a game by a Trojans tight end since 2009. His performance gives USC a demonstrated receiving option at tight end as conference play begins.
USC needs Bowman’s production to carry into Big Ten play before its schedule gets tougher. The Trojans open the conference season at Rutgers at 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday, Sept. 19.
Bowman is USC’s first Big Ten Freshman of the Week since running back King Miller won the award last season. The Rutgers opener is Bowman’s first chance to make his new role more than one standout afternoon.
