No. 7 Miami was set to open its 2026 season Friday, Sept. 4, at Stanford Stadium against a Stanford team that already had a win on its record and a chance to disrupt the Hurricanes’ first push for an ACC championship.

The 9 p.m. ET game matched the teams picked to finish first and last, respectively, in the ACC preseason poll. Miami went 13-3 overall and 6-2 in the conference in 2025, while Stanford finished 4-8 and 3-5. Miami also beat the Cardinal 42-7 last season.

The opener also marks the first game for Miami’s revamped roster. Transfer quarterback Darian Mensah leads a group that includes edge rusher Damon Wilson II and receiver Cooper Barkate. Malachi Toney returns at receiver, and Mark Fletcher Jr. is back in the backfield.

Stanford is beginning its first season under coach Tavita Pritchard, a former Cardinal quarterback. His team already has a result that changes the tone of the matchup: Stanford has played a game, won it and now gets a ranked opponent that handled it decisively last season.

Miami was scheduled to host Florida A&M on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 8 p.m. ET after the Stanford game. Before that, coach Mario Cristobal’s first task was to get Mensah and the new pieces ready for the road without allowing Stanford’s early win to become the first surprise of Miami’s season.
