Miami’s 33-20 win at Wake Forest on Friday, Sept. 18, kept the Hurricanes 3-0 but left their biggest preseason question unresolved: Can a rebuilt offensive line create enough room against better fronts?
Miami has not identified the injuries referenced in the post or said which defensive starters could return before Clemson. The defense’s problems were not limited to coverage: On3 also cited missed tackles, explosive plays and a pass rush that too often needed blitz help.
Pass protection has given Miami a sturdier foundation. The Hurricanes have allowed one sack and six tackles for loss through three games, while Darian Mensah has been kept clean on 83.3% of his dropbacks. That protection has helped mask some of the uncertainty up front, but guard play and assignment errors remain the sharper concern.
Miami hosts Central Michigan on Saturday, Sept. 26, one week before the Clemson trip. The playoff case now rests on cleaner work up front and fewer explosive plays allowed.

Miami’s playoff path could turn on whether it creates yards before contact and stops explosive plays against stronger ACC opponents.
