Michigan and Eastern Michigan have reportedly moved their 2027 game from Sept. 18 to Sept. 11, creating a conflict with Michigan’s previously scheduled trip to Texas that day, Yahoo Sports reported.
The date change puts the second game of the Michigan-Texas home-and-home series in doubt. The teams opened the series at Michigan Stadium in 2024, and the 2027 meeting was supposed to complete it.
Josh Pate’s preseason bracket puts Texas at No. 5 in the playoff field, making the potential loss especially notable for a Longhorns team already viewed as a playoff contender. Michigan would lose the same opportunity against an SEC opponent.
The contract terms may make a mutual cancellation more attractive than a unilateral exit. Michigan or Texas would reportedly owe a $2 million fee if one school canceled alone, but the schools could void the game without paying that fee if they agree to do so.
The Eastern Michigan agreement also carries a financial change. Michigan will pay the Eagles an additional $50,000, bringing the reported total payout to $1.55 million. Eastern Michigan went 4-8 in 2025, compared with Michigan’s 9-4 record and Texas’ 10-3 mark.
