Michigan State’s slot role looks settled, but receiver eligibility remains unresolved

Chrishon McCray enters 2026 with the clearest receiver role on the roster after a productive Big Ten debut. Rodney Bullard’s pending NCAA case could still reshape the outside receiver rotation, where spring reps have not yet produced a final answer.

Michigan State’s receiver picture has one clear piece and one unresolved case. Chrishon McCray is positioned as the leading slot receiver after starting five games and finishing fourth on the team with 24 catches in 2025. Rodney Bullard is still awaiting NCAA approval to play in 2026 and filed an injunction earlier this week. Michigan State used Bullard as a No. 1 Z receiver during the spring, including ahead of Fredrick Moore in the Spring Showcase. The Spartans rarely used more than three receivers last season, making Bullard’s status relevant to the outside rotation. A final ruling date hasn’t been announced.
