NC State’s former medical director Murphy arrested after indictment

Former NC State sports medicine director Robert Michael Murphy was arrested Wednesday evening, Sept. 23, after a grand jury indicted him the previous week on felony and misdemeanor counts alleging he sexually abused male student-athletes who had received treatment from him.

Murphy’s arrest puts NC State’s handling of the allegations under scrutiny. The university’s athlete-care system and the trust athletes place in it are at stake.
