NCAA Wins Tennessee Appeal, Making Transfer Jalen Washington Ineligible

The NCAA secured a stay Wednesday in Tennessee that removed the temporary restraining order protecting Jalen Washington's eligibility, according to the report. Washington, a 6-foot-10 forward, transferred from Vanderbilt to Tennessee about a month ago and had been able to play because of the Nashville order. A ruling last Friday from the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals also favored the NCAA, saying athletes without specific temporary protections from state courts could not seek an additional year of eligibility. The Tennessee decision follows an NCAA appeal win in Ohio. Mark Mitchell was separately found eligible under a new SEC rule, but the NCAA can still challenge the Louisville order protecting him and other players. No final resolution has arrived for the broader eligibility dispute.
