After Arkansas turned a 3–0 lead into a 43–10 loss at Utah on Saturday, Sept. 12, coach Ryan Silverfield called it the worst defeat of his 28-year career. The Razorbacks host No. 2 Georgia on Saturday, Sept. 19, in their first SEC test of the season.
“In my 28 years, this is certainly the worst loss that I have faced. It’s not just about me, it’s about the program. Certainly wasn’t good enough. I’ll shoulder the blame. Everybody in this program didn’t do a good enough job, no matter what their role was,” Silverfield said Monday.
Arkansas went three-and-out on six of its next seven possessions after the opening drive. Utah led 29–3 at halftime and averaged 8.4 yards per play, turning the game into a collapse on both sides of the ball rather than a late defeat.
Georgia visits Arkansas at noon ET Saturday. The Razorbacks have one week to respond to a loss Silverfield said exposed every part of the program.
Asked about criticism of the performance, Silverfield said he would keep working rather than dwell on it.
“I’ll say this, in my 28 years in, there’s a lot of people who have tried to write my obituary. And guess what? They haven’t done so yet. We’re going keep coming out swinging. I plan on doing this thing for a long time and find ways to improve every week.”

The matchup tests whether Silverfield’s team can stay competitive against an SEC opponent and quiet early doubts about his tenure after Arkansas went 2–10 overall and 0–8 in conference play in 2025.

The schedule then changes shape: Tulsa visits Sept. 26, followed by SEC games at Texas A&M on Oct. 3, against Tennessee on Oct. 10 and at Vanderbilt on Oct. 17. Whatever Georgia reveals will feed directly into three conference games in 15 days, the stretch that will show whether the Utah performance was isolated or the baseline.
