OCT 10, 2026

Tennessee’s quarterback uncertainty will follow the 4-1 Vols into Fayetteville on Saturday, Oct. 10, when they visit 2-3 Arkansas at 4:15 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
George MacIntyre played the second half of Tennessee’s 24-14 win over Auburn on Oct. 3 after Faizon Brandon appeared on the league’s injury report before the Arkansas game. The severity of Brandon’s injury and Tennessee’s starter have not been announced. The change could alter an offense that rode DeSean Bishop for 220 yards and three touchdowns against Auburn.
Tennessee is 1-1 in SEC play, while Arkansas is 0-2 and has lost three games against power opponents by an average of 29 points in Ryan Silverfield’s first season as coach. A Tennessee win would keep the Vols in the SEC race and carry momentum into Alabama’s visit to Knoxville; an upset would damage their conference and playoff path.
01 · The Detail Beneath the HeadlineWhat Most People Are Missing
Tennessee’s trip to Arkansas is the hinge between a manageable SEC start and the schedule’s hardest turn. The Vols went 4-4 in conference play in 2025 and stand 1-1 before playing Arkansas, Alabama on Oct. 17 and South Carolina on Oct. 24 on three consecutive Saturdays. A win in Fayetteville would put Tennessee above .500 in league play before the preseason No. 15 Vols meet Alabama, a team in Josh Pate’s preseason playoff bracket.
Arkansas has yet to break the pattern from its 0-8 SEC finish in 2025. Both 2026 victories came against North Alabama and Tulsa, while the Razorbacks opened league play 0-2. That makes Oct. 10 a test of Tennessee’s ability to handle an opponent it should control while resolving its most important position uncertainty. It is also the first of two SEC road games in two weeks. The quarterback choice carries into a much less forgiving stretch rather than ending with the final whistle in Fayetteville.
02 · The Open QuestionsQuestions to Be Answered
Who starts at quarterback for Tennessee against Arkansas?
Tennessee has not named Brandon or MacIntyre, and the opening series will establish whether MacIntyre’s second half against Auburn was temporary relief or the start of a larger role. The answer sets the Vols’ quarterback continuity for Alabama on Oct. 17, the middle game of that three-Saturday SEC run. Tennessee has not disclosed Brandon’s injury severity, leaving the lineup, his place on the league injury report and the quarterbacks’ workload in Fayetteville as the clearest tells.
