Texas flips 2028 RB Micah Rhodes from Oklahoma
The No. 72 overall prospect chose the Longhorns after repeated visits and a Steve Sarkisian trip to Klein Oak.

Texas landed a commitment from 2028 blue-chip running back Micah Rhodes ahead of its Saturday, Oct. 10, visit to Oklahoma, flipping the Klein Oak prospect from the Sooners.
Rhodes, from Spring, Texas, ranks No. 72 overall in the Rivals300, No. 5 among running backs nationally and No. 9 among players in Texas. He announced his decision on his birthday.
Rhodes said Texas made him and his family feel like a priority: “My family and I like what Texas is doing as a whole and making sure I feel like a priority. They’ve shown me I am a priority in their recruiting class. The more I visit Texas, I see why athletes come to Austin. Great football, great people in building, and to the athletes who shared their experiences in recruiting as well — the experiences being on campus and playing for the Longhorns.”
The flip adds a highly rated back to Texas’ future pipeline while taking an in-state prospect away from its biggest rival. The pursuit also appears to have built over time. On3 reported that Texas hosted Rhodes numerous times since last fall, and coach Steve Sarkisian visited Klein Oak during the Longhorns’ bye week.
Texas is 4-0 and will visit 2-2 Oklahoma at 3:30 p.m. ET on Oct. 10. The Longhorns now have the highly rated in-state running back the Sooners once had committed.
01 · The Detail Beneath the HeadlineWhat Most People Are Missing
The timing makes the flip look like part of the Oct. 10 rivalry, but the sharper comparison is how far the programs have separated since identical 2025 finishes. Texas and Oklahoma each went 10-3 overall and 6-2 in conference play last season; Texas enters the matchup 4-0, while Oklahoma is 2-2 after losses at Michigan and Georgia.
Rhodes cannot affect that game as a 2028 prospect. The Oct. 10 result can change the backdrop around his choice: Texas can pair an in-state recruiting win with an unbeaten start, while Oklahoma can interrupt the Longhorns’ competitive and recruiting momentum in the rivalry.
02 · The Open QuestionsQuestions to Be Answered
How firm is Rhodes’ commitment to Texas?
Rhodes already backed off an early Oklahoma pledge, and neither the terms of his Texas commitment nor a signed letter of intent appears in the report. That leaves Texas with the No. 72 national prospect in its pipeline, not a settled 2028 roster spot. The clearest tell will be a signed letter of intent announced by Texas.
