Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian confirmed Saturday that linebacker Ty’Anthony Smith was dismissed from the program for conduct detrimental to the team. Smith was dismissed Friday, then Sarkisian addressed the decision after Texas’ second scrimmage of fall camp. “He was dismissed, conduct detrimental to the team,” Sarkisian said. “That’s just what it is.” Smith played in 28 games with one start during his two seasons at Texas. He had been expected to contribute on the two-deep again in 2026. A shoulder issue had affected his production and placement in the defense. Inside Texas also reported that Smith and new coordinator Will Muschamp did not always see eye-to-eye. Smith has three years of eligibility remaining.
