After Florida’s 45–17 loss at Missouri on Oct. 3, Tim Tebow challenged the Gators to respond against South Carolina on Oct. 10 before games against Texas and Georgia.

“Missouri surprised a lot of folks last week. I tell you, they surprised me a lot. I did not see an L coming for Florida that was going to look like that, and I think the first thing I go to is in this game in college football, but especially in the SEC, you can never negotiate or evaluate when you're going to show up with effort. It cannot happen,” Tebow said.

Florida was 4–1 after the loss. Missouri used quick screens and misdirection to blunt the Gators’ front-four pressure, then exposed missed tackles and gaps in the secondary.

Tebow said Florida must bring “the same skill, same will, same mindset, same determination every week.” The Gators need to show Missouri was a one-game collapse, not the start of a slide before trips to Texas on Oct. 17 and Georgia on Oct. 31.

01 · The Detail Beneath the HeadlineWhat Most People Are Missing

Florida’s 4–1 start has already matched its entire 2025 win total, but the path to that record makes the South Carolina game more revealing than the opponent’s 2–3 mark. The Gators scored 44 at Auburn and 52 against Ole Miss, then fell by 28 at Missouri. That swing puts the burden on a team that had appeared to move beyond last season’s 4–8 finish.

South Carolina arrives after three consecutive losses, having allowed 41, 49 and 35 points. Florida therefore gets one home game against a losing team to restore its standard before the Oct. 17 trip to Texas and Oct. 31 trip to Georgia. Josh Pate’s preseason bracket seeded Texas fifth and Georgia first, so the schedule offers no gradual rebuild after Oct. 10: Florida’s response has to become portable immediately.

02 · The Open QuestionsQuestions to Be Answered

1

What will Florida actually change against South Carolina?

Florida’s coaches have not announced lineup or tactical changes, leaving the Oct. 10 opening series as the first concrete answer after Missouri neutralized the defensive front. Personnel deployment, coverage choices and open-field tackling will show whether the correction goes beyond effort. South Carolina has scored 34 in each of its past two games despite losing both, so another defensive breakdown would carry directly into the Oct. 17 trip to Texas. The depth chart and early snap distribution are the clearest tells.
