One of the nation’s top running back prospects visited Clemson with his parents, with no commitment or decision timeline disclosed.
OCT 6, 2026
One of the nation’s top running back prospects, Xander Edwards, visited Clemson with his parents and said the Tigers treated him as a priority, opening a recruitment Clemson still has to win.
Edwards put it plainly: “They treated me like a priority,” he said.
The visit gives Clemson a chance to move closer to Edwards’ commitment, but it did not settle the recruitment. Edwards’ ranking, class year, commitment status and decision timeline were not disclosed.
Clemson is 3-2 and next plays Charleston Southern on Oct. 17. The Tigers have made an early impression.
01 · The Detail Beneath the HeadlineWhat Most People Are Missing
Josh Pate’s preseason bracket projected Clemson at No. 3, ahead of No. 8 LSU and No. 11 Miami. The Tigers then lost 51-10 at LSU on Sept. 5 and 41-13 to Miami on Oct. 3, leaving them 3-2 after a 7-6 finish in 2025. That is the program backdrop to Edwards’ positive visit, and it makes Clemson’s next three dates more than schedule filler.
Charleston Southern on Oct. 17, Virginia Tech on Oct. 24 and the trip to Florida State on Oct. 31 give Clemson a compact chance to change the visible direction around the program. The visit established that Edwards felt prioritized; the season now supplies the public evidence around that impression. Clemson does not have a reported decision date from Edwards, so those games arrive before the recruitment has any disclosed endpoint.
02 · The Open QuestionsQuestions to Be Answered
When does Edwards plan to make his commitment?
Edwards’ class year and decision timeline have not been disclosed, so Clemson’s runway cannot be placed against a signing calendar. A date would show whether the Tigers’ October stretch can shape the closing phase or whether this recruitment extends beyond it. The answer will come through Edwards setting a commitment date, narrowing his recruitment or announcing a commitment.
Will Edwards return to Clemson before making his decision?
Dates and details for Edwards’ future visits have not been provided. Clemson has home games against Charleston Southern on Oct. 17 and Virginia Tech on Oct. 24 before going to Florida State on Oct. 31. An announced itinerary will show whether Clemson gets another in-person opportunity during that stretch, while the next disclosed visit destination will provide a clearer marker of where the Tigers stand.
