Cass opens Three Rivers Conference play at Northfield after an 0-1 start. Northfield is 1-0 after beating North Miami 28-14, while Cass won last year’s meeting 43-13. Coach Clayton Mannering called the Norsemen’s triple-option offense an unfamiliar preparation challenge. Connyr Mack had 51 rushing yards, 21 receiving yards and both Cass touchdowns against Pioneer.
Pioneer draws Knox, one of the two teams that beat the Panthers during last season’s 13-2 run. Knox lost 42-0 to North Judson in its opener. Braxton Maciejewski ran for 55 yards and two touchdowns for Pioneer last week.
Logansport visits John Adams at Everwise Credit Union School Field in South Bend. John Adams beat Culver Military Academy 9-8 last week, and coach Troy Hudson cited the Eagles’ defensive front as a concern.
Caston, fresh off a 54-14 win over Whitko, can start 2-0 for the first time since 2009 against North White. Winamac visits Frontier after Louis Rugg III ran for 197 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-20 opening win over West Central. Frontier’s 18-game regular-season winning streak ended in a 28-13 loss to Clinton Prairie last week.
