01 · The NewsGeorgia Ends Alabama’s Tuscaloosa Drought
Georgia beat Alabama 20–17 in Tuscaloosa on Saturday, Oct. 10, ending the Bulldogs’ losing streak there since 2007 as bottles and cans flew toward Georgia players leaving the field.
“What a great college football game, great atmosphere. I've been in a bunch of those with them and they all seem similar, you know, just physical game back and forth, some critical calls, critical situations. You could go back and look at hundreds of them on there,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said.
The three-point win came with a disputed ending. Officials did not call pass interference on an apparent end-zone play that could have put Alabama in field-goal range with a chance to tie. Officials have not said whether the play was formally reviewed or acknowledged.
The frustration continued after the final whistle. Video showed bottles, cans and other trash on the ground as Georgia players walked off, and Bulldogs coaches told them to put their helmets back on. It is not known whether any fans were identified or disciplined.
The game proceeded after Hurricane Isaias came ashore and President Donald Trump canceled his attendance so first responders could prepare for potential storm emergencies. Georgia will host Auburn on Saturday, Oct. 17.
Alabama’s next game is at Tennessee that afternoon, with the Crimson Tide now needing a response after its first loss of the season.
02 · The StakesThe Stakes
Georgia improved to 6–0, strengthening its path to the SEC title and College Football Playoff. Alabama fell to 5–1 and has less room for another loss, with a game at Tennessee scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17. Josh Pate’s preseason bracket placed Georgia No. 1 and Alabama No. 10, making the result another boost to Georgia’s top-seed case and a setback to Alabama’s playoff margin.
03 · The Detail Beneath the HeadlineWhat Most People Are Missing
The result changed the schedule pressure more sharply for Alabama than for Georgia. Before Oct. 10, Georgia had not played a one-score game; its closest listed result was 38–14 against Vanderbilt. Alabama’s narrowest was 50–36 against Florida State. Now the Crimson Tide go directly from a three-point loss to the Oct. 17 trip to Tennessee, then host Texas A&M on Oct. 24. Georgia gets Auburn at home on Oct. 17, and its next listed game is Florida on Oct. 31. Alabama therefore has consecutive games to keep one loss from becoming a skid.
04 · The Open QuestionsQuestions to Be Answered
Will officials formally acknowledge the end-zone non-call?
An acknowledgment would establish whether the decisive sequence was handled as designed or treated as an officiating error, a distinction that will follow a three-point SEC result. The tell is an official statement or review addressing the play; officials have not said one occurred. The outcome is settled, but that explanation would become the durable record of Alabama’s final possession.
