Howard Baum, the Wolfpack Sports Network statistician for nearly 60 years, died Aug. 27, 2026, at his Fayetteville home. He was 92.

Baum worked NC State football and basketball broadcasts, beginning as a press-box spotter before the 1967 football season. NC State recognized his longtime service during its last home men’s basketball game at Lenovo Center, and he traveled with the Wolfpack on its 2024 Final Four run.

Baum worked two more seasons and attended only home games in the most recent one. He missed NC State’s 1983 national-title win over Houston while on a cruise, so he and his wife scheduled later spring cruises after April 5. “Just in case.”
