Missouri will honor its 1960 team as a national champion on Sept. 19, when the Tigers host Troy — the payoff to a congressional measure Sen. Eric Schmitt, R-Mo., filed weeks ago backing the school's claim to that title.
No national-championship selector or governing body has announced a new award to Missouri for 1960, and the school has not said what the ceremony will include.
The No. 25 Tigers, 8-5 a year ago, open Thursday night against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and play at Kansas on Sept. 11. Kickoff against Troy is 12:45 p.m. ET, and by then a 66-year-old argument will have a banner moment in Columbia — one Washington helped stage.
