Rutgers Adds Game-Day Staff, Shuttles and New Traffic Routes

What Happened

Rutgers Athletics announced new traffic, parking and guest-service measures for football games at SHI Stadium. R Guest Services staff will work throughout the stadium to provide directions, assist fans and address concerns. Fans can text “KNIGHTS” to 69050 or email guestservices@scarletknights.com for help. Postgame traffic routes now direct vehicles toward River Road/Hoes Lane, Route 18 or Davidson/Avenue E based on parking lot. A courtesy shuttle will serve outer Busch campus lots, beginning three hours before kickoff and running for one hour afterward. ADA shuttle service remains available. Athletic Director Keli Zinn said the changes are part of an effort to improve customer service.

Why It Matters

• Parking lot assignments now determine the preferred exit route, which should give postgame traffic a more defined path instead of one broad release from the stadium area.
• Fans in the outer Busch lots gain a shuttle from Brett Road and Bartholomew Road to the Athletes Glen area, reducing the walk before and after games.
• Rutgers has added a live reporting channel through text and stadium staff, giving the school a way to handle game-day problems while fans are still on site.

THE PATE STATE READ: Rutgers deserves credit for addressing traffic, pedestrian flow and fan complaints with outside review rather than treating game-day friction as background noise. The test is execution. Staff, text support and shuttles only matter if fans can find them and the new routes keep cars moving after the final whistle. This changes the operation more than the event itself, and the first real check comes when UMass brings the opening-night crowd to SHI Stadium.(Josh has not yet commented.)
