Sen. John Kennedy says Lane Kiffin ‘better win’ at LSU
Kennedy tied his criticism to Kiffin’s reported compensation as LSU enters 2026 ranked No. 11 after a 7-6 season.

Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy said Lane Kiffin “better win” at LSU, citing the coach’s reported compensation and what Kennedy described as taxpayer-money concerns.
Kennedy said he has never met Kiffin and did not hire him. The reporting does not establish Kiffin’s exact compensation or how it is funded. “When he's making this kind of money, he better win,” Kennedy said.
Kiffin said LSU will win a national championship but gave no timetable. LSU went 7-6 overall and 3-5 in SEC play in 2025. The Tigers open 2026 No. 11 in the AP poll and No. 13 in the Coaches Poll, hosting Clemson on Sept. 5 before traveling to Ole Miss on Sept. 19.
