Yahoo Sports’ historical overview traces Texas State football from its 1904 start through its eventual move to FBS. The Bobcats won their first TIAA conference title in 1929 and their first Lone Star Conference championship in 1948.
Under Jim Wacker, Texas State went 42-8 and won consecutive Division II national championships in 1981 and 1982. The program moved from Division II to Division I-AA, now FCS, after the 1983 season. In 2005, Texas State won the Southland Conference title, reached the Division I-AA semifinals and finished 9-2.
The account places Texas State’s move to FBS around 2013 but cuts off during its post-2010 discussion. Texas State finished 7-6 overall and 3-5 in conference play in 2025.
