Washington Expected to Replace Jonah Coleman With a Backfield Committee, Carr in Front

Washington's answer at running back after Jonah Coleman's departure looks like a committee, with Quaid Carr the name at the front of it.

Caple reported Carr is expected to start or take the lion's share of handoffs. Andy Yamashita has written about why the Huskies may need the committee approach to replace Coleman at all. What neither establishes is the rest of the group — who splits the remaining work, or how close that split is.

Washington did put first-year back Ansu Sanoe in front of fans in a recent "Meet the Pack" post, though that says nothing concrete about his role in the rotation.

The Huskies open Sunday, Sept. 6 against Washington State at 4:00 p.m. ET, ranked No. 17 in the AP poll and No. 19 by the coaches after a 9-4 season. Between now and then, the useful thing to track is not whether Carr leads the backfield but who the second and third names are when Washington actually has to hand the ball off.
