Demond Williams leaves Washington game for X-rays
The quarterback had X-rays on his side and ribs after leaving Friday’s game against Iowa, with Washington yet to name a replacement for Oct. 16 at Purdue.
OCT 10, 2026

Washington quarterback Demond Williams left Friday’s game against Iowa late in the first half after a run and went for X-rays on his side and ribs, putting his availability for the Oct. 16 game at Purdue in question.
Williams went into the medical tent before leaving for the examination, the team announced. Washington has not announced a diagnosis or the injury’s severity, or said whether Williams would return against Iowa or miss future games.
The Huskies entered the game 3-2 after losses to Minnesota and USC. If Williams cannot return, Washington must settle its quarterback plan before the next Big Ten game at Purdue. The program has not identified who would take the next snaps.
Williams’ status remains unresolved.
01 · The Detail Beneath the HeadlineWhat Most People Are Missing
Washington’s quarterback uncertainty is concentrated in one game rather than spread evenly across the month. Purdue comes Oct. 16, seven days after the Iowa game, while the next listed game is not until Oct. 31 at Nebraska, a 15-day gap. Any absence at Purdue would therefore hit before Washington gets its longest opening in this part of the schedule to reassess the position.
That timing lands amid a larger slide. The Huskies began 3-0, then lost 27-24 to Minnesota and 25-21 at USC before Iowa, already matching half of the four losses from their 9-4 season in 2025. Washington also went 5-4 in conference play last season. A quarterback disruption at Purdue would arrive with little room for another Big Ten setback if the Huskies are to approach either benchmark.
02 · The Open QuestionsQuestions to Be Answered
What did the X-rays show, and can Williams play at Purdue?
The calendar makes a short-term answer decisive: Purdue is seven days after Iowa, but Nebraska does not appear until Oct. 31. A diagnosis that sidelines Williams briefly could still remove him from the Purdue game while leaving a longer interval before Nebraska. The clearest answer will come from Washington announcing a diagnosis or game status, rather than from the fact that X-rays were ordered.
Who takes the quarterback snaps if Williams cannot play?
Washington has not identified the next quarterback, so an absence would combine an availability problem with an unsettled job before the Oct. 16 trip to Purdue. The choice would also establish who carries the position into the 15-day gap before Nebraska should Williams remain unavailable. A depth chart naming a replacement, a team announcement or the first offensive series at Purdue will provide the answer.
